Professor Dr. Atta Abdel Aaty El-Sonbaty

Professor Dr. Atta Abdel Aaty El-Sonbaty is a prominent academic and scholar specializing in comparative Islamic jurisprudence. He currently serves as a professor at the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University, where he has held several significant positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law and Head of the Department of Comparative Jurisprudence.

Dr. El-Sonbaty earned his Ph.D. in Comparative Jurisprudence with honors from the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Al-Azhar University, where he also completed his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees, consistently graduating at the top of his class. His doctoral research focused on “Sperm and Embryo Banks: A Comparative Study in Islamic Jurisprudence and Civil Law.”

Throughout his career, Dr. El-Sonbaty has held various academic and administrative roles, both in Egypt and internationally, including in Kazakhstan, where he served as the Head of the Islamic Studies Department and the Director of the Open Education Center at the Egyptian-Kazakh Islamic University (Nur-Mubarak). He is also a member of several prestigious Islamic and legal councils, including the Senior Scholars’ Committee at Al-Azhar and the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

Dr. El-Sonbaty is widely published, with over 40 research papers and studies presented at international conferences. His work covers a broad range of topics in Islamic jurisprudence, including contemporary issues in finance, ethics, and family law. He has also contributed to the academic community as a supervisor and examiner for over 200 master’s and doctoral theses.
